DISTRICT SCOUT COUNCIL

SUPPORT TO SCOUTING

Salisbury Plain Scout District covers an area bounded by Shrewton, Amesbury, Tidworth and Netheravon.  Within that area there are currently 8 Scout Groups and 2 units of Explorer Scouts catering for 14 to 18 year old children. The District Executive Committee supports the Groups and helps with communications and organisation.

Our current Treasurer, Chairman and Secretary are all standing down after a considerable time in post.  Other members of the Executive Committee have also decided not to continue. The Scout Groups themselves are all continuing to run well providing an interesting programme for the young people.  However without a functioning Executive Committee important functions such as approval of adult leader applications and financial control will cease making life difficult if not impossible for the Groups.

The duties are not demanding.  The District Executive Committee meets about 5 times a year.  The Treasurer maintains the District’s accounts and presents them at the AGM, checks the accounts of the Scout Groups and offers advice where required. No formal accounting qualifications are required but would obviously be an advantage. The Secretary deals with correspondence, the AGM, meeting minutes etc.  The Chairman will chair the Executive Committee meeting and generally promote scouting.  No previous knowledge of Scouting is needed; just a willingness to give a little time to keep Scouting available to the young people of Salisbury Plain.
