Canal Boat Holiday Summer 2002

On Saturday we all arrived at Alvechurch boatyard, loaded our kit and then learned what we had to do to get the boat ready for departure. Progress was fairly rapid getting us to Birmingham to moor up overnight. Preparations for tea came next but Tom passing the pasta to the Ventures ended up spilling it all over the towpath. |
| On Sunday we were up really early. Half way through the day thew Scouts boat went a different way to the Ventures ending up negotiating 7 more locks than we needed. Monday the Scouts left the Ventures with both boats for a different type of transport, hiking over Kinver Edge. Back on the boats we had a Ready Steady Cook competition for tea. | ![]() |

On Tuesday it rained all day except at lunchtime when a game of football was organised in a pub carpark. Rain continued the next day but for something different we had Christmas dinner with all the trimmings. The rain had stopped by the evening so we danced on the tow path to music from a portable stereo. |

On Thursday our emergency training had to be put into practice. Brock almost fell in a lock, Tom slipped and got his leg wet then Gary fell right in to the canal and had to be rescued with the life belt. On our last day we did 32 locks in a row which kept all of us busy until we arrived back at the boatyard. With provisions running low the local Chippy provided tea then we finished off dancing to Follow the Leader song. |
